Commuters in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have something to celebrate! The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is introducing two new bus services: the Purple Line and the Silver Line. This expansion aims to provide a modern and affordable transportation system for residents.
Expanding the Network:
- Purple Line: This service will operate on IJP Road, connecting areas like Pirwadhai, Khyaban-e-Sir Syed, Dhoke Najju, and sectors I-9, I-10, and I-11.
- Silver Line: This service will start from Taramri, further extending the reach of the public transportation network.
- Blue Line Extension: The existing Blue Line service will be extended to Rawat, providing additional connectivity options.
Making it Affordable:
The CDA is committed to making these services accessible to everyone, offering:
- Discounted fares: Students and senior citizens (over 60) will enjoy 50% discount on fares.
- Free rides: Children under 10 years old will ride for free.
Addressing the Gap:
These new services aim to fill the gaps in the current public transportation system, reaching areas not currently served by the Metro Bus service.
Looking Ahead:
The initial plan included purchasing 300 new buses for these lines. While details are still emerging, the CDA is expected to re-initiate contact with China to secure the necessary vehicles.
Overall, the introduction of the Purple Line and Silver Line, along with the extension of the Blue Line, demonstrates the CDA’s commitment to improving public transportation in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. By offering affordable fares and wider coverage, these services have the potential to benefit a significant portion of the population.
